Those vampires!

This is why I hate the doctor's. Those fools took my blood and left me with this. Not cool Doc, not cool.

So What Wednesday

Wow, it's been awhile since I've linked up with Shannon, but here goes:

This week I am saying so what if...

  • My favorite part of Zumba is watching others look like fools. Especially this one girl, I call her "crazy" cause damn this girl dances to her own beat. Literally... I don't know what instructor she's watching but she is flapping all over the place while she sings along...loudly
  • I probably look like a fool too, I'm not watching myself!
  • I love my 5th graders because they need me so much... it's nice being needed
  • I wrote a post yesterday explaining how my refrigerator makes me look hot
  • I'm always tired, like exhausted tired, yet I stay up later than I should every night watching tv with the hubs... clearly I have my priorities in order here!
  • If my puppy woke up with a faux-hawk yesterday morning, and I spent about 10 minutes trying to get a good picture of it:

Clearly that was wasted 10 minutes...

My fridge makes me look hot

I don't know what it is about my fridge. What kind of magic mirror LG has installed in this baby, but not matter what I wear or how fat I feel, this thing makes me look great. I see my reflection in the fridge and I look so thin and attractive. Maybe it's because it's black, so all my imperfections are darkened. Or maybe it's because of the angle of the doors. Hell, I don't care. I look good in it, so it is my favorite reflective surface :)

Oh, and before you start to think I'm just nuts and imagining this love of my refrigerator, please note that I'm not the only one who thinks this. My sister agrees that this thing is amazing for her self esteem, and I have caught several of my friends checking themselves out in the door, so this claim is legit... just saying.

This picture was taken right after I got home from the gym... A gym trip that was motivated by half a bag of Goldfish and a desire to avoid grading... Thank you fridge for making me look good after all that!

How rude!

Name that 90's child star!

Parents are rude to teachers. Straight up rude. Granted some are fantastic and do everything in their power to make their child's teacher's life easier... But others? Well theyre just mean and rude. Maybe it's because I'm young... Maybe I just plain suck, but I have had more than my fair share of rude parents. Case in point, the e-mail I received today informing me that I must have forgotten to give her son his spelling today and that she "expects" me to get it done tomorrow. Well, he must have "forgotten" to show up for school the other day to take his test and I "expect" that he not play hooky again to visit the Boston aquarium with his dad... Mmmm-Kay?

In other news; I was all motivated and ready to get back in my daily gym habit today as the beginning of the school year chaos has (somewhat) abated. So I got home from work, let the dog out, got ready and headed out the door... Without my keys. Boo. Now it's 4:15, I've been sitting on the deck for 20 minutes... Drew will be home in another 45... Curse my paranoia-drive obsession with locking all doors, windows, and other entrances to my house!

Yay for the iPhone, without which I would be incredibly bored right now.

I'm good now

Just saw a real-life Chia Pet at Wally World... My life is now complete.

Ugh... Not smart

Yesterday was Drew's birthday. Being the loving fat wife that I am I decided to order cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcakes... Yeah, that place on TLCs DC Cupcakes. It came with a hefty price tag... But oh my sweet tooth were the worth it! Amazingness... Well the tasted amazing, but since I hadn't eaten carbs in more than a week and decided to binge on 3 cupcakes AND thai food... I wasn't feeling too hot, not to mention the cupcake baby bump I was sporting by the end of the night! So here are some pix of our cupcake adventure:

The box... ain't it perty?
Before we dug in

Layer 1: Cooler bag with GIANT ice pack in it
Chocolate lava...fudge on the inside!

My babies came to see me!

Well, my former babies that is. Today was the open house at my new school. Several of my former students have siblings at my new school. They've gotten so big! They still love me :) I got hugs, and "I miss you"s. Even a couple of parents hugged me... man it felt good.

The highlight of open house? I must have been told 20 times that "everyone" has such good things to say about me and that people have heard I am an amazing teacher my ego needed that!

In other news, Drew and I have been hardcore cleaning to get ready for Saturday's festivities. We filled the bed of his truck with stuff for the dump (his buddy works there and sometimes takes stuff for us). The things is seriously packed. Drew has to drive the truck to work in the morning before meeting up with his buddy to drop off the truck. He's worried that he will look like (and I quote) "hillbilly white trash"

...I told him to tell people they're his treasures. They won't know what to say to that.

Are we literacy-ing now?

5th graders have to walk in lines... as in I have to walk them lines. Blah. Anyways, my kids stink at it. Okay, they don't really, but they end up talking and "clumping" which is a major no-no in this school. Can't say I blame them, I would totally do the same, but part of my job is enforcing The Line. So, on Friday... we practiced line walking. Pretty sure my 5th graders were mortified since, really, only the 3rd graders "practice" line-walking. But I made my 23 march all over the school (it's a big school, took more than 20 minutes). While walking down N-Wing, one of them said "it smells like a dentist in here" I couldn't help laughing. On W-Wing she said "it smells like the doctors office... man I've gotten all my healthcare needs met this afternoon"-I almost peed.

This morning the same girl was reading the schedule on the board, she asked me "are we literacy-ing now?"

I think I love her

5th graders are funny. The stuff that comes out of their mouths just makes me laugh. Even better? It's not inappropriate like the middle school kids. Middle schoolers crack jokes that are naughty, and I would have to pretend not to laugh or turn away so I wouldn't laugh. I can laugh with my 5th graders... I've been laugh a lot the past couple of weeks.

According to Drew

As he heads outside to play with wires:

Drew: Ok, I'm heading out. If you hear a loud thud and some screaming, followed by silence...

Amanda: Call 9-1-1?

Drew: Nah, start celebrating

...duely noted

After an exhausting week at school, I spent all day today painting because for some reason we stupidly thought it would be a good idea to have a housewarming party... and suddenly that party is next week... we're so screwed. Okay, not really... we just have a lot work left, but you would be amazed by the way we've transformed this house. Maybe someday I'll have the energy needed to find the pictures from when we bought the place and do a post full of before and afters... yeah, energy... what is that again?

These are my feet after today's painting adventures... Yeah, I paint barefoot.

Not sure if this post is going to format right as it is my first attempt posting via my phone

I make myself giggle.

This is the e-mail I sent my mother-in-law last night:

Hi Mom!
Drew claims you want a list of chores to do tomorrow. While I appreciate any and all help, I don't want you to feel like you have to do something. I loves you too much to force manual labor on you. That being said. Here is a list of "suggested activities" of which you may partake if you are so inclined:
  • paint the trim in the breezeway (final coat. white paint is in breezeway, brushes on counter. The kitchen side of the doorway needs a second coat as well)
  • paint the back of the doors in the breezeway (the same trim white)
  • cuddle Zoey
  • paint the closet doors that are in the garage (again, we like that white trim color)
Do NOT to all of those things! I know you, you're going to try to take it all on and then your poor achy-breaky back will hurt, and then you might miss my party, which would make me cry. So do what you want/can and I will love you forevers (or do nothing and I will still love you forevers... it's kinda win-win for you)
your fave child/only daughter
She offered to do some work on our house in preparations for our housewarming party (which holy crap-o is in only one fuh-reaking week, excuse me while I go puke a bit). So I wrote her this e-mail to let her know what activities you could partake in... and then I giggled. Cause others may not find me amusing... but I sure as hell do!

The iPhone has been great...

...for everything except blogging.

I heart my iPhone :) It is amazingness. I am sooo on top of Facebook. I've got me some good reads. It's tracking my fatness weight-loss attempts, I know when I've got new e-mails or when my imaginary restaurant is making bank (don't judge). This puppy does it all. The only thing I can't figure out? Blogging. I mean I can use Safari to go to my blog and update... but it doesn't work well. Everything is tiny and hard to read. I've looked, but haven't found an App for it (wth, I thought there was an app for everything?)

So those of you who mobile blog, how do you do it? Does it work well for you or is it easier to hop on the computer?

On another note, I had a student's parent come in this morning and offer to take some of my predecessor's curriculum materials home with her to copy, put in a binder and organized. I think I might have fallen in love with her :) I can't remember if I mentioned it before (and I'm too lazy to go look) but she left me 20-something binders of materials, assessments and activities. While her teaching style is nothing like mine  a little different than mine, I don't know what I will need in the future, so I am hoping to keep copies of it all. She is coming in at the end of the month to take them away, so I've been stressing about getting it done. This mom (and a couple of others too!) is a lifesaver. So those of you who have kids in school, offer to help out thier teacher. Even if it is something small, it can make a huge difference and really help your child's teacher focus on this cool thing called teaching

Okay, preaching over. Thank goodness tomorrow is Friday!

Some randoms

  • I'm exhausted, exhausted, but also exhilerated by this new job. My kids are awesome, but they take a lot out of me. I was up until 12:30 last night desperatly trying to fall asleep, but unable because I had too much on my mind... and it was all about my students.
  • One of my 5th grade boys got me these little plastic ninja dudes for my birthday because he knew I would appreciate it... so fuh-reaking- cute
  • I REALLY wanna win Kate's giveaway, so I'm blogging about it. Right here. Don't you dare try to win it! I love Kate's blog, so you should totally check it out... just don't enter to win, Kay? Thanks
  • Our housewarming party is in less then two weeks... how that ba-geboious did that happen???? We are not even close to having the house ready to show... but the invites have gone out, so there's no backing out there?

Apple Drama

For my birthday the hubs (being the awesome guy that he is) got me an iPhone. I've been wanting one forevers and a day, but could never pony up the cash. We got new phones almost two years ago, so we had also been waiting for an upgrade through our carrier.

Okay, so I loves it... I loves it a lot. BUT there was a lot of drama and trips to the Apple store this weekend before I got to the "loves" point.

Friday: Drew bought my phone and kept it hidden in his truck. It was not activated nor turned on at this point

Saturday: My birthday! Drew gave me my gift at like 8am (I may or may not be impatient when it comes to getting gifts. Drew may be aware of this so he is in the habit of giving me my gifts early on important days, kudos to him). So we got to the AT&T store at like 9 and had my phone activated. By 10 I had noticed the camera wasn't working. So we went back to the store where we were told we would have to drive over to the Apple store at the mall because Drew had bought it the day before. grrrr.

Went to the Apple store, the people were great and they swapped out my phone for a new one. No problem.

...Later that night, it froze on me. The touch screen wouldn't work and was freezing up, but then would randomly work again. It was soooo frustrating.

Sunday: Went first thing this morning to the Apple store to have them look at it. Again, they were great. Swapped out my phone, switched over my contacts, no problem.

Since then it has been fine. Awesome actually. I love it and am having so much fun playing with it. Hopefully 3rd time is a charm and I wont have any more issues. Cause I love me my iPhone, but I'm not going to deal with constant issues and breaking.

And just for cuteness, here is a pic of Zoey taken while I was painting the house:

Gotta love that face

I made it!

Day one: done

It was:
  • amazing
  • exhausting
  • exhilarating
  • draining
  • funny
  • frightening
  • busy
  • fast
  • demanding
  • enlightening

In short; it was crazy... but I loved it. My kids are awesome, loud and energetic, but awesome. I have some really sweet kids and some really bright kids. I have a couple that I will have to keep my thumb on, but that is nothing new. I was petrified this morning, about 5 minutes before going out to the playground to get my kids I was sure I was going to puke. But then they were there, and it was fine. They listened, they wanted to get to know me and they seemed ready to get started. I am so psyched. Even better? 4 day weekend. My district must have known that my birthday is Saturday, cause they gave us Friday and Monday off. Score!
