That's one random reading nook...

During our silent reading time in my classroom, I let my kids sit wherever they want in the room. They call these places thier "nooks" and it's not uncommon to see them sprawled across the floor or under a table. This, however, did surprise me:

I turned around and there was one of my kids underneath the vent*. I had to laugh... and then take his picture.

* Just thought I would mention that this vent is in my classroom because it has to filter in (freezing-cold) outside air every twenty minutes because otherwise the CO2 levels in my classroom become "dangerously high". Great, right?  Thank goodness we are getting a new school soon!!!

Just Add Color Fall Swap

I recently joined in Jessica and Ashlee's Just Add Color Fall Swap event. I was partnered up with Hannah from The New Black. It was so much fun to go out shopping for someone else and to see what I would get in return. Unfortunatly I don't have any pictures of the package... I was so excited about it that I tore it open before I even thought about getting a picture (yeah, I'm that person that REALLY likes getting packages).

I was so excited when I opened the package and saw this:

The scarf is exactly my shade of teal/blue and the nailpolish is adorable. I feel like Hannah must know me or something because she totally picked things I would have picked for myself. Thanks Hannah!!!

Conference week(s) and a new school

Long-time no blog. I've been really busy and there is a lot going on around here that I will share when I feel ready for it. But I did have some things to share about work right now.

First off, the last three weeks have been conference weeks. My new school is cool because they give us a three week window to do conferences during so I was able to schedule all of mine for Wednesdays and Thursdays during those weeks. Anyone who teaches knows that trying to meet with all your kid's parents in a short time is exhausting and hectic. Spreading it out over three weeks made it so much more manageable for me and I feel like I did a much better job with them in years past because I was really able to focus on the conferences I had that day, rather than trying to keep track of all of them at once.

That said, there was this one mom. You know, THAT mom. She was nasty, rude, and rather passive-aggressive. She bad-mouthed her child's previous teacher (who is an amazing woman that does everything she can for her students). She bad-mouthed the district, technology, me. She was just not a happy camper. I knew not to take it personally, because 99.5% of her complaints had nothing to do with me, but it really just got to me some and it's been hard for me not to associate it with her child. Which I know isn't fair. Not the kid's fault her mom is a psycho.

In other news. We're getting a new school!!!!! I know I blogged before about the sad state of my school (mold, asbestos, filthy, rodents, falling-apart), but the town hasn't seen the value of building a new school. Luckily, this year it seems to have sunk in. Many community members toured the school this fall and realized how desperate the situation is and how it is affecting the quality of education for these students. The town voted for a new school. Construction is going to start in the spring and we should be moving into our new school for the 2014 school year.

Yeah, I know, that sounds like a long time away, but it is super exciting and I can't wait to be in a brand-new building where I can actually incorporate technology into my teaching (can't do much now, the wiring in the building can't handle it!), not lose half an hour a day to bathroom trips (it takes 8 minutes to get from my classroom to the nearest student OR staff bathrooms) and not have to worry about my health in this nasty place.

Quitting my Addiction

I'm addicted to Diet Pepsi.

Love the stuff. Crave the stuff. May be mildly addicted to the stuff.

I'm quitting. I know the stuff is bad for me what with the chemicals, artificial sweeteners, even the caffeine. So I am making a solid commitment to stop drinking the stuff. I've done this before, and lasted a few months before caving and diving back into it with a vengeance. I've been good though, its been almost three weeks since my last one, but every time I have something salty or cheesy I get this urge to give in.

On the plus side, if that is the extent of my addictions than I guess I'm going to be okay. Hopefully if I give it up long enough my body will forget how damn good it is and I will stop craving.

Sorry, I know this is a boring post, and that I've been a crappy blogger lately. things have been super crazy and I feel like all I have time for when I get home at night is to eat dinner and go to bed.

I have today off though, one of the perks of teaching in a public school system. Even better? I have Monday off because I took a personal day before I realized it was already a three-day weekend. Even better than that? Drew has Monday off too. Granted we'll probably do something lame like put up drywall or work on our upstairs bathroom, but it's an extra day together, and for that I am grateful...until he starts getting on my nerves, then I will curse myself for taking the day off.

80s Zumba Party

I'm a hunting widow this weekend. The hubs has traveled up north for the weekend, so my little sis and I decided to make it a girls weekend. We've been hanging out, watching movies, and...
an 80's Zumba dance party!
We are dolled up in our finest and ready to hit the dance floor. What do you think? Are we clearly children of the 80's???

Vote for Zoey!

Zoey just HAD to dress up for Halloween this year, she was soooo excited. This pup pranced around in her outfit all night last night.

See Mama, I is a doctor!

I so cute!
Unfortunatly we had a lack of trick-or-treaters last night. Only about 7 total... and they all came in one group. So Zo is feeling a little sad that no one saw her costume. However, she seems to have forgotten that she is entered in a Halloween costume contest for pups. So please, click this link, and vote for Zoey. She is number 77!!!!
