Friday's Letters

Sleeping at Home Depot at 5 am

Dear Black Friday,
Thanks for the 1/2 price diapers and 1/2 price video baby monitor... we were up anyways, might as well go shopping.
Baby slept better that night!

Dear Drew,
Yes dear, you're amazing. You've put her to bed several times this week and each time she's slept way better than usual lately.  Since you're so good at it, and I've done it for the past 4 1/2 months... I think it's totally fair that you do the next 4 1/2 months.
Okay, cool?

Dear students,
No, we can not have a Christmas tree, or do a secret Santa, or spend the entire month of December celebrating holidays. There are 2 reasons for this. 1) it goes against district policy and 2) I'm Scrooge.
Stop asking

Dear self,
You need to get in the holiday spirit. This is Bitty's first holiday season and your bah-humbug attitude is not how you want her approaching it. Pony up and fake  it until you feel it.
Your inner Mom-voice

Mid-week Randoms

  • When we go for walks, Zoey likes to stare down other dogs while she pees on their yard... spiteful little brat... I'm so proud
  • I'm so not proud that Fynn loves having the dog lick all over her face AND in her mouth. So gross, and Zoey is sneaky about it so I catch them mid-makeout too often my for my liking
  • I do find it funny though when Zoey is licking the crap out of the baby and then Fynn grabs onto her face and yanks on her fur... serves Zoey right... those two are clearly going to be BFF's
  • I accidently left the front door unlocked all night the other night... thank goodness the creepers didn't choose that night to break in and kill us all in our sleep... I would have felt really bad about that.
  • I look at Fynn a couple of times a week and notice just how long she is. How the heck did I end up with a tall baby??? The phenomenon mystifies me
  • For about a month now I haven't been putting away clean laundry. When I do laundry I just throw the baskets with clean laundry in our bedroom... I fold some of it, and leave the piles on the floor and the rest gets worn right out of the baskets. So much easier
  • Zoey seems to think that the baby's toys are her new toys... I can't blame her because most of them look the same, but I'm trying to get her to see the difference.

Playtime with Mommy

There is nothing sweeter then playing with my little girl.

I love her happy little smile and the way she reaches for me and interacts with me.

...If only I can get a picture of her real smile.

How do you not wash your hair?

Since my current hair loss predicament started, I've been trying to minimize the giant clumps of hair that fall out when anything touches my head. Every time I brush or wash my hair I pull out enough to make a wig for a small child. Seriously, it's ridiculous.

I digress. The point of this post isn't to lament my hairloss, but to figure out ways to help it. Lately I've been washing my hair less often. I have heard for years that you're not supposed to wash your hair every day, but I was always exercising a lot and I have very fine hair, so daily washing seemed like a must.

Here's my issue though. On the days I skip washing my hair, I still need to shower (ew, I can't not shower) but I'm not sure how to not wash my hair. I've been putting my hair in a bun and just avoiding getting it wet as much as possible, which kinda works, but it makes my hair really flat from the steam of the shower.

Thus my question is this, what do you do about washing your hair? Do you wash daily? If not, on the days you don't wash your hair, what do you do? Any and all advise on what to do here is greatly appreciated.

4 months in

Fynn is 4 months old now. I still find that crazy. But 4 months is absolutely the most fun age so far... and the most exhausting.

I'll start with the fun. This baby is a real person now. She "talks", she interacts, she knows what she wants. It has been such a joy watching her explore and learn about the world around her. Whether it's pulling the dogs hair or shoving a plastic spoon halfway down her throat it's hilarious to see her reactions to the new things she tries. She also has a since of humor these days. Things like peek-a-boo or fake coughing make her crack up. Her little bitty giggle and gurggley belly laugh melt my heart each and every time.

But then there are the pitfalls of four months. Sleep. Or rather, the lack of sleep. She's never been a good napper, actually she rarely sleeps well during the day, but she had gotten so.freaking.good. at sleeping at night. She was going to bed every night at 7:30 and sleeping until 6 am with just one, sometimes 2 wake ups to eat quickly and pass back out. That was manageable  For the first time since she was born I actually felt human.

And then it happened. Now I don't know if it was Daylight Savings, the 4 month sleep regression, the 4 month growth spurt, or a combination of the three, but the last 2 weeks have been miserable. She's up half the night, starving. Then she doesn't want to go back to sleep. She lies in bed with me fussing and pulling at my face. Or yelling at me. Girls got some lungs.

It's exhausting, and I don't know how to fix it. I don't want to let her fuss or cry it out for two reasons. 1) I don't believe in letting a baby cry herself to sleep (I could write a whole post on this one) and 2) She's legit hungry, so I'm not going to deprive her of food just because it's tiring to me.

I just don't know how to help her. I want her to get a good night's sleep and I feel like know that's not happening. I don't even have the comfort of knowing she's napping well to make up for crappy nights of sleep. I'm hoping that this is just a phase, and that we'll get back on a good routine soon (like really soon before I lose my mind).

While I'm loving 4 months during the day when she's exploring, learning, and having fun... I'm in desperate need of a good night sleep.

{Pico}, /Fermi/, ~Bagel~

This post is a shout out to Beth, who I know checks me out (both on the blog and in person)

My long-term sub from when I was on maternity leave subs in my building a lot and sometimes ends up being the person covering for me when I go to pump. This is awesome for a couple of reasons 1) she knows my classroom...probably better than I do and 2) she comes up with some crazy-cool things to do with my kids when my plans end early and she has a few minutes to spare before I return. Enter this, which I walked into the other day:
Yes, I took a picture of my white board

At first I just stared at the board in my room trying to figure out what the heck was going on. Then, between reading the board completely and a quick tutorial I got it. Basically it's that game Mastermind where they try to guess a number. This was a easy version of it, since they didn't have much time to kill.

Later I looked it up, and it actually is a real game (sorry Beth, totally thought you made this one up). Which leads me to my question. Obviously I get the use of the word bagel. Big fat O to represent not having anything right. But what's a pico? What's a fermi? Why is this game named that?

Can anyone answer my questions?

Busy November

Hey all,

Sorry for all the reviews and giveaways this month. Okay, just kidding, they're totally awesome, but they have caused me to get away from the real reason why I blog... to talk about me!!!! :) Anywho. I love all the opportunities I've been getting lately from movie giveaways and sponsorships to beauty product samples and baby accessories . It's been a crazy-busy blog month. Things will be slowing down in a few more weeks (unless some new sponsors get in touch with me... hint, hint) and I'll be focusing more on writing all about me, and the baby of course. So thanks to those of you who have been all over my current sponsor kick and to those of you who haven't been feeling those posts, thanks for sticking around!

Loves you all,

Sunday Social- Thanksgiving Edition

This Thanksgiving I am incredibly thankful for my beautiful little family.

For my husband, who I drive crazy, yet he still puts up with me. For my little bitty baby who is getting bigger and bigger every day. For my sweet little dog Zoey who had gotten the shaft these past 4 months and is still so sweet and loving.

It's crazy to me to think that this time last year I had just found out I was pregnant and Fynn was just an idea in my head. I had no idea how much my life would change. I'm a mom, which continually blows my mind. Some how I created (with a tiny, little help from Drew) a whole other human being. It doesn't even seem possible. Every day I watch her grow and learn and discover the world around her, and I can't help but be thankful for each and every moment I have with her.

I feel blessed, and lucky and full of hope for our future as a family. I'm thankful for all the possibilities that stand before us. All the future birthdays, holidays, firsts, and adventures.

Also, I'm thankful that I can shamelessly plug my 2 giveaways that are going on right now. Check them out here and here.

Friends Giveaway

Are you a fan of Friends? Yeah, me too! I LOVED watching it in middle school and high school and was majorly bummed when the show ended. Since it ended I have watched A LOT of the reruns on tv... still love it just as much. Every episode is hilarious. I can never decide which character I love the most, each one has their own sense of humor and style that works together to make the whole show entertaining.

Right now PartnersHub and Warner Bros are working together on the release of the complete series on Blu-Ray. While I can't get you a free copy (but how sweet would that be?) I can offer up a Friends prize pack with 2 over-sized cappuchino mugs and a picture frame just like the one on Monica's door during the series.

How do you win? Glad you asked. Check out the Rafflecopter widget below, but before you do, check out the trivia games and mash up clips below. If you're a fan of Friends, it will bring back some great memories!

*Disclaimer: I was not compensated in any way for this post. Not even a freebie :( but I do get to give awesome stuff away to my readers which is (almost) just as good.

The other day I was holding Fynn and I kept having to pull her pant legs back down because they kept riding up and exposing her little bitty legs to the cold air. I actually ended up pulling her socks up to ridiculous lengths in an attempt to keep her legs warm. Seriously, she looked so cute and crazy at the same time.

And then I got an e-mail about Babylegs from Their site calls this Gapiosis and fixes it by basically being an adorable baby leg warmer. Um... I love this.

I love legwarmers anyways. In fact 2 years ago I had my grandmother knit me a pair of pink legwarmers because I found a pair she made my mom like 20 years ago and I needed to have some
Not Fynn, but oh, so freaking cute!

Fynn totally needs some baby leg warmers. How cute would her pudgy little legs look??? They're only $6 which is a pretty sweet deal and they come in a TON of cute colors and styles. If you cloth diaper, they even have a line that matches bumGenius's styles.

I love how cute they are, but more than that, I love how useful they are. Put them on when it's colder, take them off if it gets too hot. I also like how they leave the feet free so that you can get to those adorable little toes.

Did I mention that they will fit forever? Okay, maybe not FOREVER as they're probably going to get worn a lot, but they can fit anything from bitty babies to grown ups and can be worn on arms or legs... hmm... which means I can get Fynn and myself matching pairs. Better not tell Drew about that plan.

*Disclaimer: The opinions and thoughts in this post are all my own. However, I did receive a free product in exchange for my post.
