Why do I do this to myself?

My students and I are going on a field trip tomorrow. A big one. One that involves 4 hours of bus travel and a total of 10 1/2 hours with my kids. I'm actually looking forward to the trip. We've spent the last month studying in depth for this trip. It's the culmination of a LOT of work.

Today we had the "Mommy Mrs. M-" talk. The talk where I tell them that they are my babies, that I love them, and that I want them all to be safe and happy on this trip. I spent an hour going over all the safety precautions we have to take and what I expect of them. They we're great. Respectful, earnest, and full of curiosity.

Friday though, I wanted nothing to do with this trip. It's my own fault really.... You see, about a month ago my kids asked if they could make t-shirts for the trip. They wanted to get neon shirts and paint them. In theory it sounded like a great idea. Neon shirts would make it easy to find my 26 babies and 10 chaperones in the midst of a busy city. Yeah, except I probably should have left it at just getting shirts. Instead, I stupidly agreed to let them paint said shirts.

Thus, my Friday afternoon was spent with fabric paint all over my classroom. Kids with paint all over their hands. Kids fooling around in the bathroom when they went to wash their hands. Then, once the kids left, there was paint, shirts, and other random crap to clean up.

Why, oh why, do I do this to myself?
