Fynn's First Birthday Party

Last Saturday was Fynn's first birthday party. While it was a lot of fun, I'm glad it's over with. Having that many people coming over stresses me out and I felt like I had a million things to do to get ready for it.

The party was great though. Lots of family, friends, love and celebration. I calmed down and focused on Fynn. So while my party wasn't Pinterest-worthy, it was exactly how I would want it. I actually did not take a single picture during the party. All the pictures I got were from friends and family at the party.

The set up:

Cupcakes: We decided to go with cupcakes because they would be easy to serve and we could have a lot of different flavors going on. I made all of the cupcakes the night before the party. It was a bit much (I made about 80) but it wasn't too much work. We also made Fynn a mini-cake to smash.

Balloons: Got to have them. Fynn love balloons and thought that they were great. We had some inside and some tied to our lamp post and front porch.

Tables: We had a cupcake table, a gift table, a drinks table and a Fynn table where I put pictures of her at different ages and her scrapbook (which, I'm really proud to have finished up to 11 months).

Food: We had a barbeque. Burgers, dogs, chips, pasta salad, Asian salad, fruit salad and watermelon.

Cake Smash: I was a little disappointed in Fynn's cake smashing abilities. I expected the typical baby cake smash; cake everywhere, frosting all over the place; an epic mess. What I got was her picking at the cake, eating a little frosting, and smearing a little in her hair because she was tired. Oh, did I mention she refused her afternoon nap that day? The party was at 3. Usually the time she's waking up from a 2 hour nap. But the day of the party? I tried for about 2 hours to get her to sleep, to no avail. She wasn't having any of it. She held it together really well for the party, but was a mess for a few days after while I tried to get her back into better sleeping habits.

Some more pictures from the party:

Not quite sure of what to think of all the people in the house.

  2. My boys do that, too, during parties - they never really eat the cake the way I think they're going to. They usually push it around their plate and then ask me for a popsicle. Clearly they have been abducted by cake-hating aliens. :)

Fynn is such a cutie!!! Love her headband.
