My Pride in Breastfeeding

I'm proud of the fact that I've made it to a year of breastfeeding. My pride doesn't come from thinking my way is better (though clearly I feel there are benefits or I wouldn't be doing it) but more from the fact that I didn't give up. Breastfeeding is hard, especially in the beginning. Then there's the pumping. Pumping at work is hard both physically and mentally stressful with planning times, getting coverage (obviously some jobs don't have to deal with that) and trying to get all your work done.

When all is said and done, I did it. I didn't give up, even when it got really hard. I didn't give up even when I wanted to. Even when I felt like it wasn't working for me. That is a source of pride to me. When I was pregnant my goal was to make it to a year. People told me to be easy on myself. Set smaller goals, not be to hard on myself if it didn't work. But I made it work.

Whether we continue nursing or not, I've met my self-imposed goal and done what I wanted to do for my little girl. That means the world to me. Right now the plan is to continue nursing for as long as she wants to. Whether that's another week or several months is unknown. I've met my personal goal, the rest is just the sugar on top.

  1. you go girl! <3 My mini is 8 months already & we are still breastfeeding! BREAST IS BEST! :)

  2. Congratulations! It is always nice to reach a goal. I was, unfortunately, unable to breast feed due to lack of production, but I always wished I could.

  3. Congrats!! I hope to make it a year as well. You're an inspiration!

  4. Just found your blog through Jess at Sparkles and Crafts. I have a almost 3 month old and my goal is a year of BF as well. She's recently been diagnosed with a possible milk protein allergy so for now I've given up dairy to hopefully fix it. I really don't want to stop BF. I LOVE it!
