Our Puppy

A real princess.
Anyone who has read my blog, or met me for more than 2 seconds, knows that my life pretty much revolves around my puppy; Zoey. Yes, I understand that this is an intense and maybe "odd" relationship to you, but please know that this pup is my baby. I have raised her, fed her, cuddled her and been through some scary "mommy" moments. Scoff all you want, but there is nothing I wouldn't do for this little girl. Here is the story of how Zoey came to be with us.

If you have read Our Love Story and Our Wedding Story you know how Drew and I got to where we are now. However, what I left out in that story was the beginnings of Zoey. Back in the spring of 2009, Drew and I started talking about puppies... we wanted one, and had just bought our house (I'll blog about that later!) so we starting looking in Uncle Henry's at puppy pictures. Woah, was that fun. We quickly agreed that we wanted a little dog, Drew because that's what he had always had for dogs, and me because I had grown up with big dogs and I wanted something cute and little.

Drew's family had always had Shih Tzu dogs, so we narrowed it down to that breed, knowing how sweet and friendly they are. What cemented that choice was with Drew's parents got a Shih Tzu puppy, named Bailey, that they brought home in March. She was a cutie!

Without me knowing, Drew got in contact with one of the breeders in our state. They e-mailed back and forth and discovered that there would be a girl puppy ready to go home the week of our wedding. Drew was hesitant, because we had planned our honeymoon for the week after, and he didn't have anyone to watch the puppy (besides, we wouldn't have wanted to miss her first week home!)

Drew e-mailed the woman again and said that we couldn't take her because we would be gone that extra week. Thankfully the breeder was a sweetheart, and she agreed to keep the puppy an extra week until we could come get her.

About a month before the wedding, Drew and I were working on our new house, when he told me he had a wedding present for me. He came in with a big box. When I opened it, I found a pink leash and collar and this picture:
How could you not love this face?

I almost died... my first baby. AND Drew said I could name her (LOVE). I came up with two choices; Zoey or Ava. Drew hated the name Ava, so Zoey had a name.

Fast-foward a month and a week later. We returned home from our honeymoon on the 4th of July. Bright and early the next morning we drove to the middle of nowhere and picked up our baby.

This is how she rode home.

Love at first sight!
Zoey now, for the most part, runs our household. She is a whopping 8 pounds of cuteness and spunk. She sleeps in our bed with us, goes in the car just about anywhere we go, and is usually found in on of our arms. She is a very loving pup, kisses and cuddles are her favorite past times, but she does like to get rambunctious. Drew likes to tease her by attacking her toys, and man does she get mad! (actually, I should record that sometime soon, it's really funny to watch a tiny pup attack my big husband). I wouldn't trade Zoey for anything in the world she is the perfect "furbaby".
